A female food vlogger in China has been fined 125,000 yuan or almost P1 million after cooking and consuming a shark.
According to local reports, the food influencer named Tizi posted a video of herself eating a great white shark wherein she also shared that she bought the shark meat online at 7,700 yuan. Her video garnered negative comments such as what she did when being an attention seeker since consuming protected species is against the country's wildlife protection laws.
Police officers in China said that they "the DNA barcode of a residual tissue sample from the shark" to confirm that it was a great white shark, which is an endangered species on China's National List of Protected Wild Animals.
Meanwhile, Tizi who is also identified only as Jin was arrested along with "Mr. Shen and Mr. Yan," the two men who sold her the great white shark in Zhangzhou city in East China's Fujian Province.
Meanwhile, China recently amended the Wildlife Protection Law to intensify penalties for related violations such as hunting, trading, and shipping terrestrial wild animals. (KBAPI)
