While summer is great weather to go to the beach and swim in the pool, there are some precautions and practices that must be taken to stay healthy and safe. This is because too much exposure to the heat can cause dehydration and dangerous conditions like heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat stroke.
Aside from drinking enough water to stay hydrated, there are still some more things that you should do to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion.
First, here are the things that you should do to protect your eyes and skin from the heat, according to Healthline:

1. Wear a sun-protective clothing

To keep your body cool, wear loose white linen or cotton clothes during sunny days and avoid wearing dark-colored clothes because they can absorb more heat, while tight clothes won't let your body sweat.
If you need to go outside frequently, you may try to invest in sun-protective clothing with ultraviolet protection factor (UPF).

2. Sunscreen

Always make sure that you apply sunscreen to your exposed face and body whenever you are outdoors to avoid sunburn. Use sunscreens with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 or higher.
If you are going to the beach, you may use a higher-rated sunscreen, and don't forget to apply enough amount on the areas that can burn easily, such as the nose, ears, shoulders, and back of the neck.

3. Sunglasses

Love your eyes, and don't forget that sunglasses are not just for fashion but also for your protection. It prevents UV rays from burning your corneas and protects your eyes on more sunny days.

4. Hats

Aside from the fashion that it brings, wide-brimmed hats can protect you from UV rays that can expose your face and helps keep your skin looking wrinkle-free.

5. Lip balm

Using a lip balm with SPF protection not only blocks the sun, but also keeps your lips more kissable by keeping it moist.
Meanwhile, here are some of the ways how you can stay hydrated during the summer, according to Utah State University:

1. Drink plenty of liquids

Aside from water, try drinking milk and juice drinks out of water-based fruits or vegetables, such as watermelon and cucumber. Some sports drinks can help you stay hydrated; however, you need to be cautious with the amount of sugar they have.

2. Always be aware of the weather conditions

Even on days when the weather is cloudy and breezy, hot summer temperatures can still bring water loss. So whether the sun goes down already, you still need to stay hydrated.
