The Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 8 collaborated to conduct the Chikiting Ligtas Vaccination Program in Barangay Saint Michael in Palo, Leyte, on May 19.
The program was in line with the simultaneous vaccination for measles-rubella and oral polio vaccine supplemental activity that began on May 1.
In partnership with DOH Eastern Visayas, BJMP Region 8 has emphasized the importance of this monthly activity, which aims to prevent a potential spike in measles and polio cases through vaccination.
Children aged nine to 59 months should receive vaccination against measles-rubella, while newborns aged less than a month up to 59 months need inoculation against polio virus types 1 and 3.
BJMP extended their gratitude to the health department, Palo Rural Health Unit (RHU), St. Michael barangay officials, and healthcare professionals and volunteers for their contributions to the success of the vaccination program. (Reported by Wennie Vilchez/90.9 Radyo Natin Laoang)
