Filipino cue artist Anthony Raga continued his fine showing in the international billiards scene after placing second in the 2023 China Open 9-Ball Championships in Shanghai on Sunday, September 10.
The Cebuano ace, called by his peers "The Dragon", settled for a runner-up finish and bagged 20,000 dollars (1.1 million pesos) after losing to Germany's Joshua Filler, 11-5, in the finals.
Four years ago, Raga, 25 years old, also finished bridesmaid in the same tournament against China's Wu Jiaqing with a heartbreaking 11-10 defeat.
Less than a month ago, the University of Cebu product fell short of the European Pool Championship as David Alcaide of Spain defeated him via a nail-biting 13-12 hill-hill.
Despite the bitter results, Raga's impressive outings proved he can deal with big guns.
To reach the championship round, Raga overcame Mongolia's Yeruult Amgalanbaatar, 11-7; Japan's Naoyuki Oi, 11-9; China's Liu Haitao, 11-5; and Chinese Taipei's Wu Kun-Lin, 11-6.
