Malabuyo snares floor exercise silver in 2024 FIG World Cup

Fil-American gymnast Emma Malabuyo gave the Philippines its lone medal in the recently concluded Cairo, Egypt leg of the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series.
Malabuyo copped the silver in the women's floor exercise event after scoring 12.666 points on Sunday, February 18 (Monday, February 19, Manila time).

Japan's Mana Okamura ruled the competition by garnering 13.066 points, while Spain's Laura Casabuena completed the podium cast with 12.633 points for the bronze.
Malabuyo, who competes for the University of California, Los Angeles Bruins gymnastics team, finished seventh in the qualifying stage with 12.470 points to reach the finale.
With her runner-up finish, the 21-year-old floor exercise silver medalist in the 2023 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships gained 25 qualifying points for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Malabuyo and the Philippine women's gymnastics squad head to Cottbus, Germany for the second leg of the World Cup series on February 22-25.
The World Cup serves as an Olympic Qualifier.
Filipino gymnasts will qualify for the Summer Games in the French capital if they're among the top two athletes per apparatus, per the Olympic Qualification World Cup Ranking List.
Carlos Yulo and Aleah Finnegan already qualified for the quadrennial meet.
