Pimentel on Marcos burial: 'I will respect the decision of the decision-maker'

MANILA — Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said on Monday he will respect the decision of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to allow the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).
Pimentel, however, clarified that he is not supporting the burial of the former strongman at the heroes' cemetery.
"My personal opinion is I don't believe that Marcos is a hero. If I were the decision-maker, I would not have allowed the burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. But since I am not the decision-maker, I will respect the decision of the decision-maker," Pimentel said in a media interview.
When asked to comment on the petition filed before the Supreme Court for the exhumation of Marcos body, Pimentel said it is now up to the court.
"Let them (court) decide," Pimentel, an ally of President Duterte, said.
Pimentel believes that the Marcos issue "will still be with us for a long time."
Last Friday, the Marcos family decided to bury the remains of the former President days after the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions opposing Marcos burial at the heroes' cemetery. (PNA)
