President Rodrigo Duterte approved September 13, 2021, as the starting date for School Year 2021-2022, as announced by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday.
According to the statement posted by the DepEd, the said date was one of the given options by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones.
DepEd said in a statement "We thank the President for his full support to the delivery of quality basic education for the incoming school year. The school calendar for SY 2021-2022 will be released soon."
"We hope for our stakeholders' continued cooperation and support as we prepare for another challenging yet worthwhile endeavor of educating our children amid a global health crisis."
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the schools in the country have shifted to a blended learning approach to avoid the possible transmission of COVID-19.
In December 2020, Duterte approved a pilot test of face-to-face classes on areas with low COVID-19 cases, however, he abolished his decision weeks later due to COVID-19 variants.
Meanwhile, Briones said that they will guarantee the public that the classes will continue and no learner will be left behind.
