MANILA — Two train sets for the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) are set to arrive in the country by the first week of September.
"These trains, consisting of six train cars (two trainsets), were procured from Hyundai ROTEM Company in South Korea," said Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Despite restrictions and challenges posed by the pandemic, he said construction activities continue on the MRT-7's guideway and stations as well as electronic and mechanical works.
As of July 22, 2021, the MRT-7 is 60.93 percent complete and seen to begin partial operations by April 2022.
Full operations for the MRT-7 are slated to begin by the fourth quarter of 2022.
The MRT-7 is a 22-kilometer train service seen to cut travel time between San Jose del Monte in Bulacan to North Avenue in Quezon City from the current two to three hours to just 35 minutes.
It has 14 stations and can accommodate 525,000 up to 850,000 passengers daily. (PNA)
