Life is all about balance, there is positive and negative energy around us. There are some people who are easily swayed by certain energy. Absorbing positive energy could be beneficial to an individual. But if you allow negative energy to penetrate you, that could be harmful to your physical or mental health.
Thus, it is important to choose your circle of friends and your battle because not everyone and everything needs your attention. Hence, it would be helpful if you know how to control your emotions and reactions.
Here are some ways to protect your energy:
Choose your friends carefully
It does not guarantee that the more friends you have the happier you will be. In this aspect, the quality does really matter instead of the quantity. Therefore, you need to think twice if this group of people deserves a seat in your life. Thus, it contributes positively to your well-being, allows you to gain knowledge, wisdom and experience in a positive way or they are just like bad influences.
Know yourself more
Be patient to know yourself even more because it takes time. Once we know ourselves better, it would be easier for us to gauge things as we gain clarity and stand firm in our values and principles in life. This way, it will help you attract like-minded people, give you the confidence to deal with them and enjoy life.
You are not a robot, meaning you don't have to agree all the time. You have your own mind, body, time and priorities. You have the right to say no and it is ok to refuse one's invitation. Setting boundaries whether in work or social relations will save you from stress, guilt and frustrations.
Keep in mind that you have a life outside social media. So, you don't need to be online 24/7. Don't be afraid of missing out on the latest trends on the internet. You can turn off your cellphone or put it in airplane mode as often as you want. It is the best way to get rid of distractions.
Being busy does not necessarily mean that you are working, cooking, or playing. It could also mean that you are busy resting, healing or even contemplating.
Listen to your intuition
Trust your gut feeling then you will feel happy and at ease. Don't allow yourself to be influenced by external factors like the opinion of other people.
Use a mantra
Using a phrase that you will repeat over and over again in your head whenever unnecessary circumstances occur will help you protect your energy. For example, "their energy is not mine", "everything will work out for the best", "this too shall pass." It allows you to cool down and have a rational and positive mindset.
The process of protecting your energy takes a lot of effort. Learning the ways mentioned above will definitely take time to master (remove: it). Since you don't want to appear to be a cold-blooded person, you still need to find balance on where and when you need to execute it.
