With Christmas being just around the corner many of us are already thinking of what to give the people we love, but if you're a little like me, and budget seems to fall a bit short then I got your back!
Gifts shouldn't always be grand and expensive, sometimes it's the small things that pack a punch. Here are some free (and almost free) presents you can offer your loved ones this coming holiday.
1. Re-gift something you own
You most probably have a few items in your house that a friend or relative will love. So whether it's something unused or slightly used try shopping from home and give a gift such as a good-looking vase, a book, or even a pair of nice and fancy wine glasses. Make sure to share generously.
2. Customize a playlist for them
We all love a good song, what more when we receive our very own customized playlist filled with our favorite tunes. You can include music that helps reminisce the good old days or songs that keep the heart pumping. You can go old-school and burn a CD or simply make one on Spotify.
3. Cook for them
For this gift you might need a quick (and inexpensive) grocery run. Cooking is always a good way to warm a person's heart, especially when you make them a delicious treat! Try making your loved ones some cookies, cupcakes, or even an all-purpose spice rub!
4. Offer your time/service
Giving someone your time is probably one of the most precious yet underrated gifts! You can offer to spend the day with them to catch up and chat or offer them your time and service so they can take a day off from whatever house duties they have. For your friends that are now parents, you can offer to babysit their kids.
5. Grow them a plant
A pretty-looking plant is always a great gift. With the pandemic, many have turned to plants to give our homes more color. You can either give them an indoor plant or a very useful vegetable plant. Just make sure to start early since this gift may take some time.
6. Hand them down a secret family recipe
If you're friends with a foodie then this may just be a good gift for them! If you have a family recipe that your friends love to eat then learning how to make it will not only make their day but will be incorporated into their everyday life.
7. Print them a photo
A lot of our photos are posted on social media, so receiving a printed photo is somewhat a breath of fresh air, especially when it's put in a beautiful frame (which you most likely have at home).
Once upon a time, a friend of mine gave me a P50 present; the gift was a simple peeler. However simple I was ecstatic upon receiving it because I always complained about how horrible I was at peeling fruits and vegetables. And little did I know that my friend took it to heart and offered a simple solution to my cyclical cry.
The moral here is you don't have to go big because in the end it's always the thought that counts.
