Ever hated an ex so bad that you start cursing him and everyone associated to him? (except for his dog of course)
Well if you do, then Nashville-based teen singer GAYLE has you covered with her breakup anthem "abcdefu".
The song opens blatantly with fuming emotions post-breakup, "F*** you and your mom and your sister and your job and your broke-ass car and that shit you call art," and if that's not enough it continues with, "F*** you and your friends that I'll never see again. Everybody but your dog, you can all f*** off."
"I have tried so hard to be the nice ex-girlfriend, and I'm over it. [The song is] empowering you to get pissed off," GAYLE said in a quote via American Songwriter.
You can still be yourself a good person, but be mad at somebody at the same time. I definitely bottled it all up, so when it came out, it exploded into this big, 'I hate your mom, I hate your sister. I kind of hate you. Not your dog though, your dog's really cute. I'm gonna be comfortable with the fact that I'm pissed off at you because I never let myself do it. I had to wait for you to be talking shit about me to let myself be mad at you? F*ck that." she added.
The breakup anthem first rose to fame as it became a trend on TikTok and eventually making its way to a variety of music platforms.
According to Billboards, GAYLE topped its Emerging Artist chart (dated December 4) and was also able to enter the Hot 100 while ranking No. 1 on Alternative Streaming Songs and Alternative Digital Song Sales thanks to her breakthrough debut single "abcdefu".
The song's popularity has caused it to have six alternative versions (including a clean version) one of which features a verse from Royal & the Serpents.
